Abstract
Unani system of medicine is an exquisite system of holistic healthcare that practices health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis and cure as well as the rehabilitation. Moreover, these herbal cometics have given their due importance in Unani medicine. Various ancient Unani physicians including Ali Ibn Abbas Majusi, Abu Bakr Muhammad Bin Zakariya Razi, Ibn Sina and Ismail Jurjani etc. have discussed herbal cosmetics in their ancient manuscripts in detail. Herbal cosmetics for skin problems hyperpigmentation, sunburn, blemishes, scaling and dryness are also discussed. Few of these herbal preparations were selected and reviewed for their indications, methods of preparation and modes of application. Such formulations if adopted by cosmetic industry after dermatological tests and clinical trials can promise natural skincare that’s cheaper and show few or no side effects.
